JERRY BROWN – 1980 and 1992 Democratic primaries The son of a California governor, Edmund G. Brown Jr., studied at a Jesuit seminary before entering the law, and then politics. In 1975 he succeeded Ronald Reagan as California governor. He ran in the 1980 primary, finishing third (the primary and election were won by Jimmy Carter.) He later sought other political posts, and finished fifth in the 1992 primary, which was won by Bill Clinton. He remained active in politics, and last month was sworn in as California’s Attorney General. He’s photographed here at The Stage restaurant in Keene in 1991. (Photo by MICHAEL MOORE of The Sentinel)
